In the van today when I asked Brennan how his day was he said, "I am just SO excited". I asked him what he was excited about and he said, "SUMMER. I just can't wait for SUMMER!"
It might seem silly to be talking about summer in February, especially in Winnipeg, but we started talking about Summer 2010 in September of 2009. That is what life is like for the Director and his wife of Cedarwood, the Camp Ministry of Youth For Christ Winnipeg. It is crazy to think that it has already been a year for us! Well, almost a year. And now we are entering...duh duh duh...REGISTRATION! Yes, starting tomorrow morning at 10:00 am, Cedarwood registration opens. Now, to understand you have to know that in the past Cedarwood fills up, a total of about 800 campers within a few weeks! In fact, I think it was last year that the online registration system actually KNOCKED OUT our server!! Well, we have done everything in our power to be as ready as we can...including LOTS of prayer. To give you an idea of what this is going to look like for summer, we will have about 800 campers, 50ish staff including leadership, counselors/skill instructors, kitchen, maintenance and LIT's. LIT's are Leaders In Training and this year we are expecting a LARGE number of applications. Applications for staff also go live tomorrow. It's a new level of intensity for Brennan (my loving husband) and I. It's a lot to think about, plan for, PRAY for, lead others in, and...do!
But one word in the midst of all the planning, and life in general, that keeps coming back to me...delight. A few weeks ago Brennan and I went to the 2010 Desiring God Conference for Pastors. Since then, I have found that the concept of Joy has really called my mind as well as my heart to consider how amazing and inspiring it is to serve and love the God of everything! I want to delight always! It's not easy, but I think it's possible. At least, that it was I am believing. Since God is God and he doesn't change, why should my delight in him change based on my circumstances? My answer...it shouldn't. God is God and deserves my delight.
And so, with registration opening tomorrow and I being a stereo-typical redhead who is determined and unwaveringly passionate, I may find myself...stretching to reach delight with my mind, but I pray that my God will bless with me with that honor. And that he might bless my Office Coordinator with LOTS of patience...with me and work :)
It will be fun I think :) !
